Canon EOS R5: Professional mirrorless redefined
In short, the EOS R5 is very much a mirrorless version of Canon’s 5-series DSLRs.While we haven’t yet seen a working Canon EOS R5, we have now seen one in the flesh – and it’s very much based on the original EOS R.The Canon EOS R5 has slowly revealed itself during a succession of teaser announcements – and the latest one suggests it will be the most exciting camera so far with those specifications.
Sensor & Resolutions
Canon developed a new CMOS image sensor for the EOS R5. EOS R5 is set to raise the bar at a high level still and video capture empowered by this new CMOS sensor and the new DIGIC processor. We also know for sure that the camera is capable of 8K video capture meaning the camera would require a sensor with 7680 x 5120 pixels. The processing power that will be required to record 8K movies would generate a huge amount of heat though, and it’s as yet unclear how the R5 will handle this.
It is said that uncropped 8K video can be shoot at up to 29.97fps, and 4K video shooting at up to 119.9fps, in 4:2:2 10-bit (H.265) Canon Log, and Dual Pixel CMOS AF available in all 8K and 4K modes. Internally recorded and uncropped 8K RAW Recording up to 29.97 fps with Dual Pixel CMOS AF, and HDR-PQ Recording (H.265) capability. Shooting 8K video at 30fps with no crop, we’ll have to wait and see who much it can record.
Shutter Speed
The EOS R5 can capture fast-moving subjects in a high-speed burst as it is listed in the canon webpage. It has 12fps with a mechanical shutter and up to 20fps with a silent shutter.
Subject Detection
With Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF Technology, the EOS R5 will be capable of making Ultra-High-Speed Autofocus calculations to match its immensely powerful High-Speed Shooting capability of 20 fps. Canon says that Detection of Animals will also be possible for the first time in a Canon camera, effectively tracking the whole body, face, or eye of cats, dogs, or birds for speed and precision which is like next-gen autofocus. Subject detection adopted from the Live View AF tracking system in the EOS-1D X Mark III brings Face, Head, and even Eye-tracking when People detection is set, providing ease and accuracy when capturing stills or video.
Other Specification
EOS R5’s has IBIS Stabilization along with the Optical Image Stabilization. The two card slots can be found in R5 which are CFexpress card slot and UHS-II SD card slot where CF express is expected to be for the 8K Videos. EOS R5 will support the automatic transfer of still image and video files from the device to the new image. canon cloud platform.
Availability and price:
Well, the canon has not given any details for price and when the camera is going to be launched. It is expected that it will launch in July 2020. Taking about the price, it is expected to be around 3,500 USD.
